Bradley Village Hall History

1858

Bradley Village Hall began life in 1858 as the village school, the opening of which was recorded in The Staffordshire Advertiser on the 27th of October of that year.

1960s to 1988

The building initially accommodated about 80 pupils, the boys and girls having separate entrances,

By 1988 the numbers of children attending had fallen to 12, making the school no longer viable, thus leading to its closure.

1993

However, after having undergone alterations, including a side extension (see below), the building reopened in its new role as Village Hall.

The official opening in 1993 was attended by Princess Anne.

1993 to current day

Now, for almost three decades the Village Hall has provided a venue for a wide range of interests for Bradley residents and the inhabitants of surrounding villages. Activities have included keep fit, line dancing, computer learning, a book club, first aid, yoga, cake icing, upholstery, French, digital photography, sewing/hand crafts, a bridge club, and local history talks. In addition, it has provided a venue for larger village events such as coffee mornings, craft fairs, harvest suppers, Christmas and New Year celebrations, farmers’ markets, fundraising events, and barn dances. Furthermore, it has been regularly used for private gatherings for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and funerals.

Bradley Village Hall will continue to welcome such activities and events for many years to come.
